Description
In April 2025, a public body and 8 other national departments issued a policy document on accelerating digital education, including measures to support international collaboration and promote co-development of digital courses with leading overseas universities. This opens up new business opportunities for UK digital education providers in China, one of the largest online learning markets in the world.
The public body is working on a pilot project to support universities of both countries to work on the joint development of online modules, primarily focusing on:
• net zero
• sustainable development
• global health
This pilot project aims to showcase excellence in digital education and the subject matter expertise of UK universities, and contributes to the improved recognition of online degrees and courses in China in the future.
The public body is seeking UK universities that meet the following requirements:
• strong subject-matter expertise in net zero, climate change, or global health
• experience in online education
• has identified and engaged with Chinese university partners of a similar profile who are interested in the joint development of online modules
Partnerships that generate one of the following two types of outputs are eligible to apply for the available funding:
• output 1: a jointly agreed online module development and delivery plan with the Chinese university partner
output 2: the production and launch of a co-developed online module with the Chinese university partner, focusing on one or more of the prioritised thematic areas.
Available funding applied per recipient:
• completion output 1: £2000
• completion output 2: £5000
Funding application deadline: Apply via the external link below by 30 November 2025.
Funding allocation: By 1 March 2026.
Funding applications will be reviewed and approved on a first-come, first-serve basis.
